Fitness - Take it on the Road - Fit Training Blog for Women 40, 50 and Beyond

It's a busy season, and many folks ask me how to honor their fitness commitments when travelling either on business or for pleasure.

Here are three tips for times when you'll be away from your home routines:

1. Map it out. Before a trip when looking at your upcoming week's calendar, think about planning for exercise time. Whether you use airportgyms.com to sneak in a layover workout or simply commit to a yoga stretch when you arrive back to your hotel after your daily business meetings, having a plan is key.

2.. HIIT it. Often when you travel, your time is limited. And when it comes to business travel, your time might be controlled by someone else's agenda. Here's where high intensity interval training, or HIIT for short, can be a fitness life saver. Select three exercises that include compound muscle groups and do them as fast and hard as you can. You'll work up a sweat, achieve your exercise goal and hit the shower in record time!

3. Create a mini gym space. Look around your hotel room or suite and use benches for triceps dips, the bed as a platform to hook your legs on for incline crunches or the wall for pushups. All good! Don't forget the floor for the all important plank- you can catch the news while you sneak in your workout.

Of course, using the hotel or conference center's fitness facility, pool or cable TV fitness channels are other great options, as is streaming your favorite workout videos from the Beach Body DVD portfolio. The critical thing is to take your fitness with you so you can continue your healthful lifestyle while away from your normal routine and give it local flavor to keep it fresh, fulfilling and fun.
